The North Somerset Partnership has been in existence since 2001 in various forms.

In 2004 the partnership developed its first long-term vision set out in the North Somerset Community Strategy. At that time the partnership had a large Board of over 20 members and up to ten delivery partnerships.

In 2008 the NSP undertook a governance and performance management review to ensure it was 'fit for purpose' to deliver the new North Somerset Sustainable Community Strategy - 'Improving our communities together'.

As a result of the review a number of structural changes were agreed, particularly to the Board and delivery partnerships.

The partnership Board was reduced to 14 senior representatives from the public, private, voluntary and community sectors.

The NSP also formalised the role of the NSP sub-group (which was delegated to take a lead on the development of the Local Area Agreement (LAA) and the Sustainable Community Strategy (SCS)) into an Executive. The nine members of the Executive were again drawn from across the public, private, voluntary and community sectors.

The other major change was to rationalise the delivery partnerships bringing the ten theme areas together into four new delivery partnerships, which were:

The partnership led on a number of pieces of work.

A performance framework was developed to monitor progress against the shared priorities and aims of the Sustainable Community Strategy. Regular reports were received by delivery partnerships and the Executive, with an annual report taken to the Board. The reports brought together data from all partners involved in delivery of our shared priorities.

In 2011 a further review of the partnership was undertaken following a number of significant policy changes introduced by the Coalition Government elected in 2010. Whilst the NSP Board remained as the overarching Board of the partnership the review led to a further re-structure with the de-commissioning of the Executive and the bringing together of delivery partnerships into two new Boards.

The People and Communities Board brought together the Health & Wellbeing, Safer Stronger and Children & Families delivery partnership work programmes and responsibilities. The Infrastructure and Local Economy Board took on the role of the Transport, Economy & Environment delivery partnership together with wider responsibilities.
