Learning & Skills
Our vision for North Somerset in 2025 is:
- To have established a 'learning culture'
- To enable everyone to have opportunities and support to fulfill their potential in learning and education
- For all education providers to provide a safe learning environment and promote respect among the diverse population in North Somerset
Our objectives are to:
- Raise standards of learning achievement
- Remove barriers to learning, training and employment
- Ensure that educational opportunities are available to all individuals at all ages
- Ensure that all potential learners have access to free information and advice regarding all forms of learning
- Assist employers in meeting skills needs through the delivery of relevant training
- Increase employment opportunities for young people
- Increase graduate retention rates
Our progress:
All the immediate actions within the Community Strategy have been completed or are on course.
In addition the following actions have been undertaken:
- A bid has been submitted to the Learning & Skills Council to create a new Skills Centre for Industry, Business and Schools in Nailsea
- A bid has been submitted for a Train to Gain Scheme - employers can send employees on appropriate training courses
- Business Breakfast for Industry has been arranged focusing on skills
Getting involved:
Everyone can get involved in their communities and help to improve quality of life for all across North Somerset.

- Become a school governor
